Tip 22:   How to Download a Lotto Wheel

This Tip shows you how to download a Lotto Wheel file into Lottery Director.

This Tip assumes you are familiar with using Windows folders.  You should also be familiar with downloading.

These are all standard Windows procedures.  If you are not familiar with using Windows folders, or with downloading, see your Windows Help or guidebook.

Why Would I Want to Download a Lotto Wheel?

Lottery Director already contains over 800 Lotto wheels.  It also has complete Straight and Boxed Pick-3/4 wheeling.

In addition to your 800 built-in wheels, new wheels are being developed by Lottery Director players worldwide.  Wheels that are unique and useful get posted in the "Featured Wheels" area of this Web site.  They are always free.   You can download them into your software at any time.

Also you might find new wheels that you can download from other Web sites that have free wheels.

When you put a wheel into Lottery Director, you will be able to use Lottery Director's wheeling filters -- to control your wheeled combinations and reduce your wheeling cost.

What is a Compatible Wheel?

Lottery Director imports wheels in a variety of formats.

A wheel file is compatible for importing into Lottery Director if it meets all of these criteria:

  • Text:  The file must be in plain 'text' only, with one combination per line.

  • Contents:  The file must contain combinations only -- no 'headers' or descriptive text.

  • Size:  Maximum of 5,000 combinations per file -- if a file is larger than this, split it into separate files.

  • Format:  Lottery Director reads any of these standard 'numeric' or 'alphabetic' wheel file formats:

    1 2 3 4 5 6
    1,2,3,4,5,6
    1-2-3-4-5-6
    01 02 03 04 05 06
    01-02-03-04-05-06
    ABCDEF

You can find examples of compatible files on the Featured Wheels page at this Web site.

Where to Find Wheels

You can find wheels in many places on the Web.

Here are some suggestions:

  • At This Web Site:

You have some wheels ready for downloading now at this Lottery Director Web site.  They have been made, tested and verified with the Lottery Director Professional Wheeling software.

Look for them on the Featured Wheels page.  You'll find this at your Player Support Pages link on your Home page.

  • At Other Web Sites:

You can also find new wheels at several other links listed at this Web site.

Look for them on the Recommended Links page.  You'll find this at your Player Support Pages link on your Home page.

How to Download a Wheel:

To download a wheel, you should be familiar with using Windows folders.  You should also be familiar with downloading.  If you are not familiar with using Windows folders, or with downloading, see your Windows Help or guidebook.

Use the instructions below for downloading a wheel file from a Web site.

  1. Download the Wheel.  Download the wheel file from the Web site, and put it into your Lottery Director "Wheels" folder:  C:\Ldir\Wheels.

What to Do Next:

'Text' wheels:   If you downloaded a plain "Text" wheel, like those you find at this Web site and other Web sites, you must now "Import" the wheel file into Lottery Director.  You have a separate Tip which shows you how to do this.  It shows you how to import a wheel, step-by-step.  Return to your  'Support'  page, and see your Tip about "Importing a Lotto Wheel".

Why do I 'Import' a Text Wheel File?
Plain 'text' wheel files have combinations, but they do not have any other information about the wheel -- how it works, how it matches your numbers.

Lottery Director needs this information to use your wheel properly with your numbers.  When you "Import" the 'text' wheel, you give it the information the software needs.  That makes it a 'Playable' wheel.

'Playable' wheels:   If you downloaded one of the "Playable" wheels at this Lottery Director Web site, you do not need to import the wheel file.  All you need to do is just "Rename" the wheel file.  Give it a wheel number between 0401 and 0800.  It will be ready to play immediately.

Why do I 'Rename' a Playable Wheel File?
In your Lottery Director software, you use a unique number (from 0401 to 0800) to identify each custom wheel in your collection.  At this Web site, 'Playable' wheels are numbered from 0900 and up.  This makes sure you don't accidentally 'overwrite' one of your existing, favorite wheels when you download a wheel.

After you have downloaded the wheel file, just give it a new wheel number between 0401 and 0800.  Give it a number that you're not already using for another wheel in your collection.

Where Can I Get More Information?

Your  Professional Wheeling  guidebooks give you complete instructions for Importing a wheel, and for naming wheel files.  Your guidebooks also describe each kind of wheel, and explain how wheels work.

Note:   You can use the free, online guidebooks at this Web site.  They are all free downloads.  You can view them, and you can print any or all pages.

If you like, you can also order the printed version of the  Lottery Director User's Guide  book.  It's available separately at this Web site.  It's supplied as part of the complete Lottery Director software package.

Helpful Information:

Downloading

Your Browser:

Details for downloading vary with the Web browser you are using.

  • Various browsers handle downloading differently, and there are differences between versions of the same browser.  You should be familiar with your Web browser's instructions for downloading files from Web sites.

  • If you are not sure how to download files, refer to your browser's Help system or to a good textbook on using your browser.

Safe Downloading:

Please note this about downloading.

  • All files at this Lottery Director Web site, including wheel files, have been scanned with Norton Anti-Virus software, using the latest anti-virus definitions.  They are tested prior to uploading to this site.  Files at this site are free of any viruses.

  • If you download any files from other sites, you should always verify them with your own anti-virus software immediately after downloading.

Your Download Folder:

The folder for downloading wheel files into is:  C:\Ldir\Wheels.

  • All wheel files go into this folder.

  • Only wheel files go into this folder.  If you are downloading other kinds of files (not wheel files), do not download them into this folder.

When you start to download a file, your Web browser will ask you to specify a destination or target folder for receiving the file.

Usually you can type in the folder name:  C:\Ldir\Wheels

Or, your browser may give you a "Browse" or "Search" button for searching for the destination folder.  Using your Browse or Search button, search for your  C:\Ldir\Wheels  folder.  Then open the folder, so the file can be downloaded into it.

Here are some suggestions:

  • First, find your  C:\Ldir  folder.  It will look similar to this: Lottery Director folder.

  • Next, click on the  C:\Ldir  folder to open it.  This will show the folders it contains.

  • Your  C:\Ldir  folder contains a folder called  C:\Ldir\Wheels.  Find this folder, and click on it to open it.

Here examples of how the folders look:

Make sure you are selecting your  C:\Ldir\Wheels  folder as the destination for your wheel file.

When you have downloaded the wheel file, take a look inside your  C:\Ldir\Wheels  folder.  (You can use your Windows Explorer to look into the folder.)  You should see the wheel file there now.  If the file is not there, review the instructions for using your Web browser, and download the file into the correct folder.
